Text Renderers

filed under Write page, Sidebar

Text renderers are really easy! They come from plugins and do stuff to your post content. The checkbox for each renderer is checked or not depending on the plugin's settings. On your Global settings->Plugins page if you click the name of the plugin you will be able to change the default condition. An example of how a renderer works: The "Smilies" plugin is off by default (which seems wrong to me but it is what it is). Therefore typing :) will NOT turn into a happy face. If I turn on that renderer then it will. Simple? The post is stored exactly as you type it: rendering happens when the post is called for displaying in a browser, but not in the "write" screen when writing or editing. Another example would be the code generated by the "Videos" plugin. You have a toolbar, you get code, the renderer makes it be a video. Edit this post to see the code :)

Follow up:

Each renderer might have 2 linked icons. The Help links to a readme file about the plugin/renderer and provides information about the plugin. The WWW links to the plugin's home page where you might be able to learn more, or just thank the author for their work.
